The performance evaluation of handloom weavers’ cooperative societies: An empirical study with reference to Madurai and Dindigul districts of Tamil Nadu

Abstract

The Handloom Industry is the second largest employer after agriculture in India. India excelled in producing handlooms by introducing many techniques in the weaving industry thousands of years ago. What separates people from the masses is clothing. It depends on the weavers who weave and provide the people's pride, who protect the dignity of the people, and make them special people. This study deals with the performance evaluation of the selected Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies from Madurai and Dindigul districts. It uses the statistical tools for Common Growth Rate, Mean Standard Deviation, and Ratio Analysis. The analysis reveals that Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies in Dindigul outperformed Madurai in terms of purchases, sales, and gross profits growth. The stability observed in Madurai Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies may mask underlying challenges that could affect long-term sustainability
