Effect of micronutrient on growth and yield attribute of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L)

Abstract

The present study entitled “Effect of micronutrient on growth and yield attribute of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.)” was conducted during summerseason 2024-25 in the instructional farm at Khudmudi under College of Horticulture and Research Station, Sankara-Patan Durg (C.G.). The field experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications and ten treatments consisting a control with two micronutrient i.e., boron 1 kg per ha, boron 1.5 kg per ha, boron 2 kg per ha, zinc 5 kg per ha, zinc 10 kg per ha, zinc 15 kg per ha, boron 1 kg/ha + zinc 5 kg/ha, boron 1.5 kg/ha + zinc 10 kg/ha and boron 2 kg/ha + zinc 15 kg/ha as foliar application at 20 and 40 days. The aim of the experiment was to find out to the effect of micronutrient on growth and yield parameters of cowpea and to work out the benefit cost ratio. The interpretations were recorded on various vegetative growth, yield parameter and economic. Micronutrient combination boron 2 kg/ha + zinc 15 kg/ha gave significantly better performance at vegetative character like maximum plant height (68.91 cm), no. of branches per plant (6.13) and minimum days to first flowering (39.62 days), days to 50% flowering (47.90 days), days to first pod picking (60.46 days).In case of yield parameter like maximum no. of green pod per plant (27.56), length of green pod per plant (22.91 cm), weight of green pod (30.31 g), total weight of green pod per plant (195.33 g), total weight of green pod per plot (4.52 kg) and total weight of green pod per ha. (150.67 q) also found better boron 2 kg/ha + zinc 15 kg/ha treated plant. Also increased benefit cost ratio (2.61) found under this treatment.
