Successful surgical management of skin wound in clinical cases of dogs using allogeneic Canine Amniotic Membrane (CAM) graft

Abstract

The current study evaluated the management of skin wound in clinical cases of dogs using allogeneic canine amniotic membrane graft. Irrespective of the site, depth, duration of injury, the cases were selected for the study. Physiological and haematobiochemical parameters of the patient were evaluated prior to application of the graft and post treatment. The graft did not cause any significant variations in these parameters. In all the cases rapid rate of wound healing (average of 0.086 cm/day) was observed with complete epithelialisation. Bates Jensen wound assessment scores improved significantly after application of canine amniotic membrane. Histopathological evaluation revealed that the healed skin showed striking similarity to that of normal skin, exhibiting no scarring, a thin epidermis, remodelled connective tissue, hair follicles and sebaceous glands. This cell-based therapy was economical, minimally invasive and provided a favourable functional outcome on the skin wound.
