Clinical applications of bioceramic materials in endodontics

Abstract

The advent of calcium silicate-based bioceramics has significantly impacted the field of Endodontology due to their superior sealing capacity, biocompatibility, and ability to promote healing. Materials such as Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA), Biodentine, Endosequence BC, Bioaggregate, and iRoot BP Plus are now commonly applied in clinical situations, including pulp capping, regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs), perforation repair, root-end restorations, apexification, and root canal treatment. These materials promote tissue repair and regeneration, often resulting in favorable treatment outcomes. Despite these advantages, limitations remain, notably their relatively slow setting reaction, the possibility of inducing discoloration, and inconsistent performance across cases. An extensive literature search was conducted on this topic to identify articles related to various clinical applications of the bioceramic materials.
