Genomic analysis of aspergillus secondary metabolites
Abstract
Fungal secondary metabolites (SM) play crucial roles in human and plant health, medicine, and industrial production. These SM exhibit enormous chemical, functional, and genomic diversity. There are specific SM biosynthetic gene clusters (BGC) in the fungal genomes. These BGCs contain closely related co-regulated genes. The Aspergillus fumigatus genome is predicted to have several BGCs that are distributed throughout the length of the chromosomes. These biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) contain backbone genes, such as polyketide synthases (PKS), non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS), hybrids (PKS-NRPS), terpene cyclases (TCs), and prenyltransferases (PTs). The present study and findings would help to understand the evolution and diversity of SM biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) in the genus Aspergillus.
