Diversity, abundance and aggressiveness of Aedes vectors of arboviroses in southeastern Benin

Abstract

The aim of this study was to measure the risk of transmission of arboviroses through the direct aggressiveness of vectors, as well as the diversity of these vectors in southern Benin. Our results showed a high abundance/aggressiveness of the main dengue vectors. These vectors are also exophagous. The present study revealed an abundance/aggressiveness of Aedes aegpti and Aedes albopictus in the two communes studied. Aedes aegypti is the most abundant, followed by Aedes allbopictus (an invasive vector). These vectors are also exophagous. The information from this study should serve as a warning to public health decision-makers to take swift action to avoid potential dengue epidemics in Benin.
