Assessment of little millet based intercropping system under mid-Kharif season

Abstract

The present research entitled “Assessment of little millet based intercropping system under mid-Kharif season” was conducted at Research Cum Instructional Farm, S.G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, IGKV, Chhattisgarh during Kharif 2023. The experiment was laid out in RBD with three replications and seven treatments. The treatments comprised of T1: Little millet-sole, T2: Horse gram-sole, T3: Niger-sole, T4: Toria-sole, T5: Little millet + Horse gram (4:2), T6: Little millet + Niger (4:2), T7: Little millet + Toria (4:2). In the Little millet-based intercropping system, little millet as the sole crop (T1) has better performance than the other treatments in terms of plant population, plant height, and dry matter accumulation. T2: Horse gram-sole has recorded higher plant population and dry matter accumulation among the intercrops, while in the intercropping systems, little millet + Horse gram (T5) showed higher dry matter accumulation at all crop growth stages. The results reveals that among the various intercropping systems, the intercropping treatment Little millet + Horse gram (T5) had a significantly higher gross return and net return in terms of economics, which was followed by Little millet + Niger (T6) and Little millet + Toria (4:2) (T7). Horse gram-sole (T2) had the highest gross returns, net returns and benefit cost ratio among the different sole crops.
