Productivity of wheat under Dalbergia sissoo based agroforestry system as influence by punning intensities and weed management practices
Abstract
A study to evaluate the impact of pruning intensities and weed management practices on wheat production under Dalbergia-based agroforestry system was conducted at AICRP on agroforestry research Farm during 2020-2021. Results indicate that effective weed management methods such as hand weeding at 30 days after sowing and pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin substantially improve crop growth. Among various pruning intensities, lighter pruning levels (25% and 50%) contribute to taller plants and more favorable yield attributes compared to more extensive pruning (75% and no pruning). Notably, open conditions, free from tree canopy interference, yielded the highest grain and straw outputs, showcasing superior harvest index values. This study underscores the importance of tailored strategies for managing pruning and weeds to maximize wheat yields in agroforestry systems, offering insights into optimizing productivity.
