An atypical case of retained nuclear material post uneventful phacoemulsification surgery

Abstract

A 71 year old female came to us with the complain of redness and pain in her right eye from past 2 days. There was history of falling of shampoo in her eye 2 days back. She had undergone cataract surgery in her right eye 231 days back which was uneventful. Her post-operative period was also uneventful. On examination her vision in the right eye was 6/24. There was central corneal edema with Descemet membrane folds and there was a large chunk of nuclear material about 4 mm x 2 mm in the inferior portion of anterior chamber which was rubbing against the cornea. There was circumcorneal congestion as well. The patient was taken for anterior chamber wash and the oedema resolved.
