Effect of organic manure and spacing on the growth and yield of rice bean (Vigna umbellate L.)

Abstract

The field experiment was carried out during the kharif season of 2024 at the crop research farm of the Department of Agronomy, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj (U.P.), India. The experiment was entitled “Effect of Organic Manure and Spacing on the Growth and Yield of Rice Bean (Vigna Umbellate L.) The experiment Was laid out in randomization block design (RBD) which consider of nine treatment and replication thrice viz., T1: FYM with 30 cm x 25 cm, T2: FYM with 40 cm x 15 cm, T3: FYM with 45 cmx 10 cm, T4: Vermicompost with 30 cm x 25 cm, T5: Vermicompost with 40 cm x 15 cm, T6: Vermicompost with 45 cm x 10 cm, T7: Poultry manure with 30 cm x 25 cm, T8: Poultry manure with 40 cm x 15 cm, T9: Poultry manure with 45 cm x 10 cm. The results of the experiment showed that growth parameters such as plant height (45.91cm), number of nudules/plant (8.13), number of branchs/plant (4.33) and plant dry weight (21.78 g) were significantly increased with higher levels of Vermicompost is the more nutrient level 1 t/ha. Significantly highest number of pod/plant (14.47), number of seed/pod (7.93), Test weight (g) (41.83 g), and seed yield (1.12 t/ha), straw yield (3.72 t/ha) were recorded under this treatment. Gross return (INR 135127.00/ha), net return (INR 85827.00/ha), and benefit: cost ratio (1.99) were highest with the application of Vermicompost with 30 cm x 25 cm.
