Performance of paired row pigeonpea-based intercropping system in high-density cotton on growth and yield of pigeonpea
Abstract
The study was conducted to study the performance of the paired row Pigeonpea cotton intercropping system and to assess the growth and yield of paired row pigeonpea, which is intercropped with high-density cotton. And the space between the two paired rows of Pigeonpea is effectively utilized for growing high-density cotton. This experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station (ARS) Tandur, Vikarabad during Kharif 2023-24 and 2024-25. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications. Main plots with between the paired rows of pigeonpea in three different high density cotton spacings and sub plots (six) with varying levels of nitrogen and growth regulators, Among the main plots 60 cm x 15 cm recorded the maximum number of pods per plant (196,167 and 182), test weight (9.26, 9.14 and 9.20) and grain yield (1286, 1085 and 1186 kg ha-1) straw yield(3327, 3157 and 3243 kg ha-1) and harvest index (27.8, 25.6 and 26.7) during 2023-24, 2024-25 and mean results, among the sub plots highest grain yield (1271, 1083 and 1178 kg ha-1) straw yield yield (3282, 3233 and 3257 kg ha-1) and harvest index (27.6, 25.1 and 26.4) of paired row pigeonpea was during 2023-24, 2024-25 and mean results was recorded with application of 125% RDN + Mepiquat chloride 50 ppm at square formation and flowering stage (S3), it was followed by the treatment (125% RDN + Cycocel 60 ppm at square formation and flowering stage), (S6) during 2023-24, 2024-25 and mean data.
