Effect of limited irrigation levels on growth and yield of different wheat varieties

Abstract

An experiment on performance of wheat varieties under different levels of irrigation was conducted at Breeder Seed Production Farm, Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture JNKVV, Jabalpur (M.P.), during the winter season of 2023-2024. The experiment comprised of three irrigation levels as main treatments and five varieties as sub treatments in split plot design with three replications. The yield improved with irrigation in all the varieties. The increase in frequency of irrigation increased the growth parameters, yield attributes and grain yield of different varieties of wheat crop. Under no irrigation, variety CG 1036 (4104 kg ha-1) gave significantly higher grain yield as compared to other varieties. Under one irrigation (at CRI), variety DBW 110 produced significantly higher grain yield (4589 kg ha-1) over other varieties DBW359, CG1036, HI1655 and DBW441.While in the treatment where two irrigations were applied at two critical stages i.e. at CRI and bootleaf stage; highest grain yield was noted in the variety CG 1036 (4439 kg ha-1) which was closely followed by DBW 359(4377 kg ha-1) DBW 110 (4346 kg ha-1) and all these three varieties were significantly superior over rest of two varieties at these stages of irrigation.
