Health status, symptoms of chronic disorders, family history and occurrence of chronic disorders among patients with different treatment methods

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to study the Health and nutritional profile of patients suffering from chronic disorders who were attending three different systems of medicine viz., allopathy, ayurveda and naturopathy. The data was collected from 245 respondents (Allopathy-105, Ayurvedic-70 and Naturopathy - 70) using structured and pre tested interview schedule. The collected data was analyzed using appropriate statistical tools. The results of the study revealed that, majority of respondents (62.0%) had the digestive disorders like hyper acidity followed by dental problem like dental caries (58.0%), the hypertensive symptoms like breathlessness and sweating was high (65.7%). In all the three groups of systems of medicine the father of respondents had suffered from all three types of chronic disorders. Screening of family history for chronic disorders in a combined sample of all the groups indicated that 114 (46.5 %) out of 245 respondents, father had suffered from hypertension followed by 85(34.7%) and 18 (7.3%) respondents father, suffering from diabetes mellitus and cardio vascular diseases. The duration of occurrence of chronic disorder among the three groups studied, revealed that highest percentage of subjects in group-II suffered from hypertension for less than five years.
