A study to assess the knowledge regarding newborn immunization schedule among antenatal mothers visiting to antenatal OPD in a selected hospital Mangaluru

Abstract

Immunization is the process by which an individual immune system becomes fortified against infectious agent. On a global basis, three vaccines are currently licensed for immunization at birth HBV, BCG, and OPV. WHO and UNICEF estimates national immunization coverage. Objectives of the study: To assess the knowledge regarding newborn immunization schedule among antenatal mothers visiting to antenatal OPD. To find out the association between the knowledge regarding newborn immunization schedule among antenatal mothers with socio demographic variables. Methodology: A purposive sampling technique was used to select the 30 antenatal mothers visited antenatal OPD. The investigator assessed the knowledge of the antenatal mothers through self-structured knowledge questionnaire by an interview method Results: revealed that majority of 23(77%) had moderate knowledge, 6(20%) had inadequate knowledge and 1(3%) had adequate knowledge regarding newborn immunization schedule among antenatal mothers. The study was concluded that knowledge regarding newborn immunization schedule among antenatal mothers was moderate.
