Assessment of soil fertility and nutrient indexing of PDKV adopted Shelgaon Ghuge model village in Washim district

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted to assess the soil fertility status in a PDKV adopted Shelgaon Ghuge village of Washim district during the year 2024-25. Eighty-five surface soil samples were collected in village using GPS. The collected soil samples were analysed for various fertility parameters. The soils were neutral to slightly alkaline in reaction, non-saline free from soluble salt hazards and calcareous in nature. In terms of fertility, soils were moderate to moderately high in organic carbon, low in available N, low to moderately high in available phosphorus, low to mediunm in available sulphur and very high in available potassium. The available micronutrients were low and low to medium in respect of Zn and Fe, respectively. While, available Cu and Mn were medium to high range. The nutrient index value (NIV) for soils were found to be moderate for organic carbon, low for available N and P. moderate for available S and high for available K. Low NIV for Zn, moderate for Fe and high for Cu and Mn.
