Screening of pickle type mango genotypes

Abstract

 A survey, collection and screening of pickle type mango genotypes in Western Vidarbha region, Total 20 mango genotypes were collected and evaluated for this purpose. These genotypes revealed wide variability in quantitative, qualitative and morphological characters of fruits. Maximum average fruit weight (241.40 g) was recorded in mango genotype APG-9, pulp weight (193.98 g) in APG-9, pulp percentage (78.63%) in APG-9, pulp: stone ratio (8.21) in APG-9, pulp: peel ratio (6.50) in APG-20, maximum titratable acidity (7.80) was recorded in APG-12. Least peel weight (14.30 g) was found in APG-1, peel percentage (11.14%) in APG-9, stone weight (15 g) in APG-2, stone percentage (8.02%) in APG-9, T.S.S. (6.3 ºBrix) in APG-12, total sugar (1.20%) in APG-13, T.S.S.: acidity ratio (0.81) in APG-12. As unripe highly acidic mango is most suitable for the preparation of pickle, the genotype APG-9 with 6.10% titratable acidity was found to be most suitable.
