Effect of Organic manrues and Row Spacing on Growth and Yield of Lentil (Lens culinaris L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out during Rabi season of 2024-2025, at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy at Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj (U.P.) on sandy loam soil with neutral soil reaction to investigate the “Effect of Organic manures and Row Spacing on Growth and Yield of Lentil (Lens culinaris L.)”. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) which consisted of nine treatment and replicated twenty-seven. The treatment combinations are T1: Vermicompost 4 t/ha. + 20 cm x 15 cm, T2: Vermicompost 4 t/ha. + 30 cm x 15 cm, T3: Vermicompost 4 t/ha. + 40 cm x 15 cm, T4: Poultry manure 1 t/ha. + 20 cm x 15 cm, T5: Poultry manure 1 t/ha. + 30 cm x 15 cm, T6: Poultry manure 1 t/ha. + 40 cm x 15 cm, T7: Goat manure 8 t/ha. + 20 cm x 15 cm, T8: Goat manure 8 t/ha. + 30 cm x 15 cm, T9: Goat manure 8 t/ha. + 40 cm x 15 cm. Application of Poultry manure at 1 t/ha + 40 cm x 15 cm (Treatment 6) recorded significantly higher plant height (55.02cm), maximum number of branches/plant (25.60), maximum number of nodules/plant (8.46), higher plant dry weight (7.75 g/plant), maximum number of pods/plant (98.47), maximum number of seeds/pods (1.93), higher seed yield (1.93 t/ha), and higher stover yield (2.69 t/ha), maximum gross return(122350.00 INR/ha), maximum net return (90940.10 INR/ha) and benefit-cost ratio (2.90).
