Comparative studies on dental scaling using ozonated water versus demineralized water in canine periodontal disease

Abstract

A present study was conducted from August 2023 to July 2024 on 14 clinical cases of canine periodontal disease for dental scaling using ozonated water and demineralized water (7 dogs each). Bacterial cultures identified Gram-positive cocci as predominant, with Amikacin showing the highest antibiotic sensitivity. There was significant reduction in bacterial load (CFU/mL) post-treatment of dental scaling with ozonated water (from 74.14±8.13 to 32.57±4.77 ×10³ CFU/mL) compared to demineralized water (79.86±8.43 to 70.00± 7.61 × 10³ CFU/mL), likely due to oxidative antibacterial properties of ozonated water. These findings suggest that ozonated water is more effective for bacterial control in canine periodontal disease management.
