Rhizosphere physicochemical properties and enzyme activities under different forest tree plantation

Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to study the “Rhizosphere Physicochemical Properties and Enzyme Activities under different Forest Tree Plantations”. The experiment was conducted at Central Campus, Department of Soil Science, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, during 2023-2024. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four replications and six treatments with two soil depths 0-15 and 15-30 cm. The treatments comprised of T1: Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris), T2: Teak wood (Tectona grandis), T3: Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), T4: Neem (Azadirachta indica), T5: Acacia (Acacia nilotica), T6: Karanj (Millettia pinnata). The results revealed that significantly highest clay content (57.43% and 57.67%) were recorded in treatment T1 (Bambusa vulgaris), bulk density (1.43 and 1.46 Mg m-3) were recorded in treatment T5 (Acacia nilotica), pH (8.27 and 8.33), EC (0.35 and 0.33 dS m-1) were recorded in treatment T6 (Millettia pinnata), Organic carbon (6.1 and 6.0 g kg-1) recorded in treatment T1 (Bambusa vulgaris), nutrient availability (Nitrogen 227.36 and 220.30 kg ha-1, Phosphorus 21.92 and 20.37 kg ha-1 were recorded in treatment T5 (Acacia nilotica), Potassium (484.40 and 472.35 kg ha-1) were recorded in treatment T2 (Tectona grandis), Enzyme activities of dehydrogenase (43.37 and 42.05 µg TPF g-1 soil 24 hr-1) were recorded in treatment T5 (Acacia nilotica), β -glucosoidase activity ((95.49 and 94.35 µg P-Nitrophenol g-1 soil 24 hr-1) were recorded in treatment T1 (Bambusa vulgaris), acid and alkaline phosphatase activities ((52.91 and 52.15 µg P-Nitrophenol g-1 soil 24 hr-1) were recorded in T1 (Bambusa vulgaris) (73.63 and 72.39 µg P-Nitrophenol g-1 soil 24 hr-1) were recorded in treatment T5 (Acacia nilotica), urease activity (60.75 and 58.19 µg NH4-N g-1 soil 24 hr-1) were recorded in treatment T5 Acacia (Acacia nilotica), SMBC and SMBN (218.00 and 211.10 µg C g-1 soil) (22.46 and 18.89 µg N g-1 soil) were recorded in the treatment T6, Karanj (Millettia pinnata).
