Study of mean performance, PCV, GCV, heritability and genetic advance of 16 characters of ornamental safflower
Abstract
The experiment was conducted to study the mean performance of important quantitative and qualitative characters of twenty-two progenies in randomized block design with two replications during summer season 2024 at Horticulture Section, College of Agriculture, Pune. GCV and PCV for ornamental safflower yield, majority for identification of good combiners and promising crosses for future better accomplishment in safflower for ornamental purpose. On the basis of overall performance of twenty-two progenies of ornamental safflower in F2 generation it was found that best promising progenies were P7P1 (GMU-7942-1 x CO-1) (Flowering Duration), P7P2 (GMU-7942-1 x BHIMA) (Plant canopy), P7P3 (GMU-7942-1 x GMU-7943-1) (Number of disc florets), P7P4 (GMU-7942-1 x SSF-708) (Number of disc florets), P7P5 (GMU-7942-1 x GMU-7942-2) (Stem thickness), P7P6 (GMU7942-1 x SSF-658) (Number of branches), P5P2 (GMU-7942-2 x BHIMA) (Days required for bud initiation), P4P1 (SSF-708 x CO-1) (Node at which first flower appeared), P3P2 (GMU-7943-1 x BHIMA) (Length of disc floret).
