Phytochemical, FT-IR, 1H NMR and GC-MS analysis of Methanol extract of Millettia Pachycarpa roots

Abstract

The present study was aimed at to identify the functional groups present in the methanol extract of the roots of Millettia pachycarpa by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to obtain an infrared spectrum which revealed the phytochemical profiles containing overlapping signals from a wide array of compounds with various functional groups. Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy revealed the presence of various functional groups such as -OH, -CH3, -CH2, C=O, etc. IR absorption bands and the bioactive compounds were identified by comparing the retrieved compounds with standard chart. The number of protons present and electronic state of the protons in the various compounds were also analysed using 1H NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) revealed the identification of phytocompounds, qualitative and quantitative analysis, phytochemical screening and detection of phytocompounds. The present finding showed the presence of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, phytosterol, saponins, alkaloids, polysaccharides, terpenoids, resins, etc. as its secondary metabolites. The result of the present work highlighted the pharmaceutical importance of Millettia pachycarpa plant.
