Effectiveness of in-service teacher training conducted by DIET Darbhanga: An evaluation study

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of in-service teacher training programs conducted by the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Darbhanga, Bihar. The research examines the impact of training on classroom practices, Teaching Learning Material (TLM) utilization and student learning outcomes through a comparative analysis of trained versus untrained teachers. Using a mixed-method approach with a sample of 200 primary school teachers (100 trained and 100 untrained), the study reveals significant improvements in pedagogical practices and student performance among trained teachers. Key findings indicate that DIET-trained teachers demonstrate 73% higher effectiveness in classroom management, 68% better TLM utilization and their students show 42% improvement in learning outcomes compared to untrained counterparts. The study provides evidence-based recommendations for enhancing teacher training programs to align with contemporary educational needs.
