Haematological indices of indigenous sheep in Rohilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh

International Journal of Advanced Biochemistry Research · 2025 · Vol. 9(8) · pp. 898–900

Abstract

Region-specific haematological baselines are essential for accurate clinical interpretation in indigenous sheep of North India. This study established the baseline hematological profiles for clinically healthy indigenous (non-descript) sheep in the Rohilkhand region. Fifty non-pregnant females (24 months) reared under semi-intensive systems were sampled during February to June. Standardized pre-analytical handling was used; descriptive statistics (minimum, maximum, Mean ± SE) were summarized. Haematology indicated a normocytic-normochromic profile (Hb 10.53 g/dL, PCV 32.64%) with a lymphocyte-predominant leukogram. These values provide Rohilkhand-specific baseline data to support clinical decisions and herd health assessments. Future studies should aim to include a wider range of seasons and physiological states, and establish formal reference intervals.
