Adjustment ability of adolescents: Role of emotional maturity

Abstract

The present study was conducted on the adjustment ability of adolescents in relation to their emotional maturity. The study's objectives were to compare the adjustment ability of adolescents belonging to differential levels of emotional maturity. The study also aimed to compare the adjustment ability of adolescent boys and girls belonging to differential levels of emotional maturity. The investigator collected data from 388 Bihar government secondary school adolescents using a multistage sampling technique. The data were collected using the survey method of descriptive type of research with the help of a self-made scale on emotional maturity and adjustment ability. Data was interpreted with the help of descriptive statistical techniques, i.e., mean and standard deviations, and One-Way ANOVA. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of adolescents have moderate levels of emotional maturity and adjustment ability. Furthermore, there is no significant difference in the adjustment ability of adolescents belonging to different levels of emotional maturity. Additionally, the study's result indicates that there is no significant difference in the adjustment ability of adolescent boys and girls belonging to different levels of emotional maturity. To enhance adjustment ability and emotional maturity in adolescents, educational institutions may adopt structured initiatives like life skills education, social and emotional learning, and mindfulness practices that promote the holistic development of adolescents.
