Zero trust architecture: A practical framework for enterprise cybersecurity
Abstract
This study examines the practical application of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) as a framework for strengthening enterprise cybersecurity. The central problem addressed is the growing vulnerability of enterprises to increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks despite investments in traditional perimeter-based defenses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 42 enterprises across finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology sectors. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS version 27. Reliability and validity testing confirmed robust measurement constructs, while descriptive, inferential, correlation, and regression analyses were employed to evaluate ZTA’s effectiveness. Findings reveal that the adoption of Zero Trust significantly reduced monthly security incidents (from 18.2 to 8.5), improved incident response times (from 5.6 hours to 2.1 hours), and lowered system downtime (from 7.4 hours to 3.2 hours). Correlation analysis highlighted strong associations between response mechanisms and overall performance, while regression analysis showed ZTA adoption accounted for 47% of the variance in incident reduction. These results indicate that Zero Trust is not only theoretically sound but also practically impactful in diverse enterprises. Overall, the framework offers measurable improvements in resilience and operational efficiency.
