Ayurvedic management in spastic cerebral palsy in children

Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry · 2025 · Vol. 14(4) · pp. 383–385

Abstract

The main cause of disability in children, affecting development and function, is Cerebral Palsy (CP). A neuromotor condition of cerebral origin is considered to be non-progressive in nature and hence is classified as Cerebral Palsy. Being a multi-factorial illness with diverse clinical symptoms, it cannot be linked to any particular ailment or disorder in Ayurveda. Aacharya Vagbhata categorizes it under the disease categories of jataja, garbhaja, and sahaja types of illnesses. None of the numerous kinds and subtypes of CP have a known "cure". Multiple Ayurveda treatment methods were used to treat a 14-year-old boy with spastic cerebral palsy. The therapy's overall impact increased by 10-15% at the conclusion of 46 days of treatment with internal medication and Panchakarma procedures.
