Ayurvedic review on sutika makkalla

Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry · 2025 · Vol. 14(4) · pp. 546–547

Abstract

Society has a primary duty to look after women, particularly when they are producing a new generation. Ayurveda not only placed a strong emphasis on the exceptional treatment of a pregnant woman during this period, but also recommended medical therapy for conditions such as Sutik Jwara, Makkalla Shoola, Yonibhramsha, and Yonikshata. The accumulation of blood in the uterus as a result of an aggravation of vata dosha causes sutika makkalla, a common post-delivery issue among women. The oxytocin hormone, which causes contraction, is released by the sucking motion during breastfeeding, which can make these cramps more intense. This, in turn, can lead to severe pain. The ayurvedic classics describe the symptoms of makkala as Shoola in Nabhi, Basti, Shiras, Kostha. Without therapy, it develops into Rakta Vidhradhi through Paka. Ayurveda offers a distinctive approach to treating makkala shoola.
