Pharmacognostical analysis and evaluation of antidiarrheal activity of leaf powder of kutaja (Holarrhena pubescens (Buch.Ham) wall.ex G.Don) in Wistar Rats
Abstract
Aim: The study was aimed to analyze Pharmacognostical study and to evaluate antidiarrheal activity of leaf powder of Kutaja (Holarrhena pubescens (Buch.Ham) wall. ex G Don) in Wistar Rats using castor oil induced diarrhea.Materials and Methods: 30male Wistar rats were grouped into five groups, they are control, positive control, standard and test groups (low dose and high dose), the fine leaf powder of the drug is given at 200 mg/kg for low dose and 400 mg/kg for high dose orally as suspension mixed with 1% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Results: Both high dose and low dose of Holarrhena pubescens (Buch.Ham) Wall.ex G.Don leaf powder reduced the number of defecation, number of wet stools when compared with positive stool. Conclusion: Anti diarrheal activity of leaf powder in Wistar rats is not statistically significant in low dose, but significant in parameter mean number of wet stools in high dose.
