Studies on morphological characterization and proximate analysis in garlic

Abstract

Study was conducted for morphological and proximate parameters, during 2024-2025 at the Instructional Farm of the Department of Vegetable Science, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, and Akola. The objective was to find out the elite garlic genotypes for growth, yield, and proximate traits. A Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications was employed, assessing twenty-six garlic genotypes alongside a control, Bhima purple and Phule Nilima. The results indicated that genotypes ATGM-12, Madh-23-3, ATGM-2, ATGM-13, AKG-41-SL, AKG-SL-3, Sagwan, Phule Nilima, not only demonstrated excellent agronomic traits but as elite garlic genotypes with a balanced combination of superior morphological traits, high yield potential, and desirable proximate composition, suggesting their suitability for both commercial cultivation and value-added applications in the food and nutraceutical industries.
