Effect of different sources of nitrogen on growth and yield of little millet (Panicum sumatrense L.) under rainfed condition

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the Kharif season 2023 at New Upland Research cum Institutional (NURI) Farm, Lamker, under S.G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, to study the “Effect of different sources of nitrogen on growth and yield of little millet (Panicum sumatrense L.) under rainfed condition” in Randomized Block Design, using ten treatments which were replicated three times. The results obtained under (T2) 100% N through urea (50%N at basal + 25% at 20 DAS + 25% at 40 DAS) + 100% PK revealed significantly higher growth parameters viz., plant height, number of tillers, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation, crop growth rate, relative growth rate and yield attributing characters viz., length of panicles, total number of grains panicle-1. Statistically highest grain yield, straw yield and harvest index was recorded under treatment T2. Maximum gross return, net return and B:C ratio was obtained treatment T2 and lowest was recorded under T1 (Absolute control).
