Morphological, genetic and molecular characterization of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.): A review

Abstract

Pea is a versatile crop that serves multiple agricultural and horticultural purposes. In India, it is grown for both its dry seeds, which are used as pulses, and its green pods, which are consumed as vegetables, especially in the northern regions. garden pea is grown for its fresh green seeds, tender green pods, dried seeds, and foliage. The green pods and young leaves of peas are consumed as green vegetables, and they can also be dried for utilization as a vegetable and pulse during off-season periods. The most valuable natural resource is germplasm, which offers the qualities needed to create high-yielding inputs that are resilient to diverse biotic and abiotic challenges and sensitive to them. Even though numerous researchers have studied pea germplasm evaluation, variability, correlation, path analysis, and genetic divergence, these studies primarily rely on examining a small number of germplasms in a particular environment.
