Lost & found: A copper t’s journey to bladder stone

Abstract

Copper-T Intra Uterine device (IUD) is a long acting reversible contraceptive with high efficacy. The risk of uterine perforation ranges from 0.3 to 2.2 per 1000 insertions for Cu-IUD. The most common site for IUD migration is bowel followed by urinary bladder, which can lead to development of a bladder stone. Partial or complete invagination of IUD can lead to calculus formation and can cause significant morbidity. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of such unusual presentation helps ameliorate the morbidity and mortality associated with such condition.
