Effect of IBA and growing media on root and shoot parameters of cuttings in ficus (Ficus benjamina L.)
Abstract
The present investigation on ‘Effect of IBA and growing media on root and shoot parameters of cuttings in ficus (Ficus benjamina L.)’ was conducted during July to November, 2024 at Flower and Ornamental Nursery, College of Horticulture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat. The experimental material comprised of ficus cuttings. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (Factorial) with three replications. The experiment was comprised of two factors viz., three levels of IBA (0 mg/litre, 1000 mg/litre and 2000 mg/litre) and five levels of growing media viz., Soil + Vermicompost (1:1 v/v), Soil + Sand + Vermicompost (1:1:1 v/v/v), Soil + Cocopeat + Vermicompost (1:1:1 v/v/v), Sand + Cocopeat + Vermicompost (1:1:1 v/v/v) and Soil + Sand + Cocopeat + Vermicompost (1:1:1:1 v/v/v/v). It was found that ficus cuttings treated with 2000 mg/litre IBA by quick dip method and planted in growing media of Sand + Cocopeat + Vermicompost (1:1:1 v/v/v) was recorded significantly maximum number of shoots, number of leaves, length of longest shoot, length of longest root, fresh and dry weight of shoot as well as fresh and dry weight of root.
