Life-fecundity tables of Pulse beetle (Callosobruchus chinensis L.) on two green gram varieties
Abstract
The study aimed to assess the fecundity and survival of the pulse beetle Callosobruchus chinensis Linnaeus on two green gram varieties, BM-2002-1 and BM-2003-2, at the Post Graduate Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture, Latur during 2023-24. When reared on these green gram varieties, the survival rates of the immature stages were 0.63 and 0.49 individuals for BM-2002-1 and BM-2003-2, respectively, with pivotal ages of 29 and 32 days. The net reproductive rate (R0) was 21.57 and 16.78 females per generation for the two varieties, while the mean generation time (T) was 37.16 and 39.97 days. The intrinsic rate of increase (rc) was 0.070 and 0.082 females per female per day, respectively, and the finite rate of increase (λ) was 1.21 and 1.17 females per female, respectively. For BM-2002-1, the stable-age distribution of C. chinensis was 55.53% in the egg stage, 43.29% in the larval-pupal stage, and 1.18% in the adult stage. For BM-2003-2, these values were 61.90%, 34.30%, and 3.78%, respectively.
