Evaluation of single-type tuberose genotypes for vegetative, flowering and yield characters under Chhattisgarh conditions
Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Evaluation of Single-type genotypes for vegetative, flowering and yield characters under Chhattisgarh conditions’’ at Horticultural Nursery, Horticultural Research cum Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during the kharif year 2024-25. The experimental design was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 8 treatments, and three replications. The treatments were KHK-TR-1 (T1), Arka Keerthi (T2), Arka Nirantara (T3), Hyderabad Single (T4), Kolkata Single (T5), DFR (AN-37) (T6), Mexican Single (T7), and Phule Rajani (T8). Among the eight genotypes studied, the result revealed significant differences the maximum plant height (60.47 cm) was recorded in genotype Kolkata Single (T5), number of leaves per plant (49.27) was recorded in KHK-TR-1. In terms of flowering parameters, early spike emergence (86.20 days), opening of first floret (99.87 days) was noted in Arka Keerthi (T2). Higher rachis length (54.00 cm) and number of bulbs per clump (6.13) was recorded in genotype Mexican Single (T7). Maximum number of floret per spike (54.20), diameter of floret (43.49 mm) was noted in genotype Phule Rajani (T8), weight of 100 floret (182.45) was observed in Kolkata Single. For yield parameters, KHK-TR-1 exhibited the higher number of spikes/clump (3.13) and loose flower yield/plot 2mx2m (4576.58). On the basis of vegetative and yield parameters, genotype KHK-TR-1 performed well. Single-type are commonly used in loose flower form, broad florets of Kolkata Single genotype contribute to its higher floret weight, making it ideal for veni and garland making, as they give a fuller and more appealing appearance and can be recommended for cultivation under Chhattisgarh conditions.
