Utility of Sabadilla officinalis in the management of allergic rhinitis in children: An observational prospective study

International Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences · 2025 · Vol. 9(3) · pp. 434–435

Abstract

Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is a common chronic respiratory disorder in children, frequently triggered by environmental allergens. While conventional treatment offers symptomatic relief, it may have limitations in long-term management. Homoeopathic remedies, such as Sabadilla officinalis, are being explored as potential alternatives. This study aimed to assess the clinical utility of Sabadilla officinalis in managing allergic rhinitis in children aged 7 to 12 years. A prospective observational study was conducted at a homoeopathic outpatient department, involving 30 pediatric patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. Clinical symptom severity was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at baseline and during monthly follow-ups over a period of three months. Sabadilla officinalis was prescribed in varying potencies, individualized based on each patient’s symptom totality. All participants showed clinical improvement, with a significant reduction in mean VAS scores from 7.9 at baseline to 2.3 at the end of the study. The most commonly reported symptoms were sneezing (90%), nasal discharge (86.6%), and nasal obstruction (80%). No adverse effects were observed. The findings suggest that Sabadilla officinalis may be a promising therapeutic option for managing allergic rhinitis symptoms in children. However, further randomized controlled trials are recommended to validate these results.
