Response of Kodo Millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) to nutrient levels and planting geometry for growth and yield attributes
Abstract
The research work entitled “Response of Kodo Millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) to Nutrient Levels and Planting Geometry for Growth and Yield Attributes” was conducted at Research cum Instructional Farm, Shaheed Gundadhur College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, IGKV, Chhattisgarh during Kharif season of 2024-25. The experiment was conducted in split-plot design with three nutrient levels (viz. M1: 75% RDF, M2: 100% RDF and M3:125% RDF) as main plot factors and four planting geometry as sub-plot factors (viz. S1: 15 cm x 10 cm, S2: 20 cm x 10 cm, S3: 25 cm x 10 cm and S4: 30 cm x 10 cm). Kodo millet cv. CG kodo-3 was sown during the month of June. On the basis of one year experiment under different nutrient levels, treatment M3 (125% RDF) was performed better in respect of crop growth parameters and yield attributing characters of kodo millet than treatment M2 (100% RDF) and M1 (75% RDF). This indicate that (125% RDF) increased level of fertilizer the increase growth and development of the kodo millet crop. Among different planting geometry of crop growth parameters and yield attributing characters of kodo millet treatment S4 (30 cm x 10 cm) produced significantly higher number of tillers, dry matter accumulation, relative growth rate, number of grains, test weight and treatment S1(15 cm x 10 cm) recorded significantly higher plant height, leaf area index, grain yield, straw yield and harvest index. This indicates that wider spacing promoted better vegetative growth, while closer spacing favored higher yield potential. The maximum cost of cultivation was recorded under treatment M3 (125% RDF) and it was followed by treatment M2 (100% RDF). The minimum cost of cultivation was noted under treatment M1 (75% RDF under different sowing methods. Maximum gross return, net return and B: C ratio was obtained under treatment M3 and the minimum gross return, net return and B: C ratio was obtained in treatment M1.
