Motives of women to consult cervix clinic in Al Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad City

Abstract

Background: There are a lot of different reasons that affect women's decisions to go to the cervix clinic at Al Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad City. These factors include social, demographic, cultural, health-related, and accessibility issues. To improve cervical health services and encourage early diagnosis, it is important to understand these factors, especially in a place where people are not very knowledgeable and don't go to the clinic very often. This study looked at the demographic profile, health-related concerns, cultural attitudes, and access-related problems that affect women's choices to get cervical treatment. Methods: A study of 200 women who went to the cervix clinic asked about their family medical history, symptoms, reasons for going to the clinic, and how easy it was for them to get medical care. We utilised descriptive statistics to find trends in how people consult and what factors lead to such tendencies. Results: Most of the people who took part were married, middle-aged or older, and had low levels of education and high rates of unemployment or not working. Most of them experienced cervical symptoms like bleeding or discomfort, yet 69.5% had never been to a cervix clinic, and routine screenings were unusual. Stigma and community attitudes, as well as cultural beliefs and a lack of family and media support, had a big impact on people's decisions to seek medical care. People put off getting care because of money problems, long distances to clinics, and a lack of knowledge about cervical cancer. Most people only sought help when they had symptoms. Conclusion: The study shows how important it is to provide targeted information, make services more affordable, and reach out to people in a way that respects their culture in order to increase access to and early identification of cervical diseases in Baghdad.
