Neurocinema: Understanding the impact of Violent films through a neuroscience paradigm

Abstract

This study examines the neurological impact of violent film, within the emerging field of neurocinema. The concept of neurocinema which coined by Uri Hasson in 2002, provides a theoretical framework for investigating the intricate relationship between cinematic experiences and brain activity. Understanding this connection is crucial for elucidating how violent visual stimuli may affect neural processes. In the dynamic medium of cinema, violence is conveyed through a rich interplay of narrative, visual, and auditory elements that evoke emotional, attentional, and moral responses. This study opens a new understanding of media violence through the interdisciplinary lens of Neuroscience, specifically examining how violent films influence and impact the human brain. For this research, we've adopted and built upon existing neuroimaging-based research from the last two decades.
