Cost and profitability analysis of tomato cultivation in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

The present study entitled "Cost and Profitability analysis of Tomato cultivation in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh" aims to examine the costs, returns, and income contribution of tomato farming in Himachal Pradesh.Assessing the economic viability of tomato cultivation is essential for guiding farmers, policymakers, and stakeholders in making informed decisions to enhance farm profitability and promote sustainable agricultural practices.The study is based on both secondary and primary data.Secondary data were obtained from various official publications of the State Government, while primary data were collected from 180 tomato growers during the agricultural year 2023-24 in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.The average yield of tomato was observed to be higher among semi medium farmers.The overall net return was found to be Rs.511650.83.The output-input ratio for tomato cultivation was recorded 4.06.The average farm income was higher for semi-medium growers (Rs.558160.34per ha) compared to marginal growers (Rs.491072.15per ha).
