International Journal of Research in Agronomy · 2025 · Vol. 8(7) · pp. 1472–1476

Abstract

Medicinal plants have been integral to human health and well-being for millennia, forming the foundation of traditional healing systems around the world. Often, these valuable resources are closer than we realize — thriving in our own backyards, gardens, and local environments. This review explores the overlooked potential of backyard medicinal plants, highlighting their accessibility, sustainability, and therapeutic benefits. Common species such as aloe vera, mint, basil, dandelion, and lavender offer remedies for conditions ranging from digestive discomfort to skin ailments and stress relief. The article discusses practical aspects of identifying, harvesting, and preparing these plants, while emphasizing safety, responsible use, and conservation. It also examines cultural traditions, modern scientific validation, and future prospects for home-based herbalism. By rediscovering and responsibly utilizing medicinal plants around us, individuals can foster a deeper connection to nature, support personal health, and contribute to ecological sustainability.
