Wood anatomy of three species on Commiphora in Karnataka, India

Abstract

The present study was to standardise the wood anatomy of Commiphora species in Karnataka. Wood from Commiphora species plants primarily known for producing aromatic resins. The macroscopic, microscopic, maceration techniques are used in distinguishing the characters of wood revealing the presence of starch grains, perforations plates, tyloses and pitted or non-pitted form. We had also observed the xylem vessels, fibres and rays. The maceration techniques revealed the presence of crystals in rays, perforation plates, type and shape of the cells. These wood anatomical studies are vital in present days and these are not only helpful in the identification but also helpful in distinguishing the characters of different species in Commiphora.
