A comprehensive review on Rhynchosia beddomei: Phytochemistry, ethnobotany, and future perspectives

Abstract

Rhynchosia beddomei is a lesser- known leguminous plant species endemic to southern India, it belongs to Fabaceae family. This plant holds ethnobotanical value among indigenous communities it is traditionally being used in wound healing, inflammation, and skin disorders and other ailments. Preliminary studies suggest the presence of active constituents like flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds, which may contribute to its therapeutic effects. Despite its traditional applications, the species remains under-researched in terms of its pharmacological activity and phytochemical constituents. This review aims to compile the available botanical, ethnopharmacological and phytochemical data on Rhynchosia beddomei, highlight its conservation status, and suggest directions for future research.
