Effect of sowing dates and nitrogen levels on growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2024-25 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences to determine “Effect of Sowing date and Nitrogen levels on growth and yield of Wheat”. The treatments consisted of three levels of Sowing date (December 20th, 27th and Jan 03rd), Nitrogen levels (80, 100, 120 kg/ha) along with recommended doses of fertilizer and a control (120-80-60 kg N-P-K/ha). The results revealed that the significantly maximum number of Length of spike/plant (6.22), maximum number of grains/spike (37.46), higher test weight (39.15g), higher seed yield (2.96 t/ha), were recorded treatment 6 (December 27th date of sowing + N 120 Kg/ha).
