Physiological, anthropometric and motor fitness characteristics of snowboarders and ice hockey players: A comparative observational study

Abstract

This comparative observational study examines the physiological, anthropometric, and motor fitness characteristics of 80 young adult athletes, comprising equal numbers of male and female snowboarders and ice hockey players. Data were collected on variables including blood pressure, pulse rate, aerobic capacity, body mass index, limb circumferences, body fat percentage, speed, flexibility, balance, agility, and endurance. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were used to compare groups, including independent t-tests and ANOVA. Results indicate normal physiological profiles, lean body compositions, and superior motor fitness, with variations reflecting sport-specific demands and gender differences. These findings provide a baseline for understanding the physical profiles of winter sports athletes and inform training optimization strategies.
