Effect of Nitrogen Management on growth and yield of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

Abstract

The experiment was conducted during the Kharif season, 2024 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to study the “Effect of Nitrogen Management on Growth and Yield of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)”. The treatments consist of different levels of Nitrogen through urea (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%), Nitrogen through Vermicompost (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%) and Nitrogen through FYM (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%). The result reported that treatment 1 [100% Nitrogen through urea] significantly influenced taller plant height (109.97 cm), higher plant dry weight (13.19 g), maximum number of capsules/plant (54.1), maximum number of seeds/capsule (70.7). It is also observed that the higher seed yield (1.04 t/ha) and higher stover yield (4.27 t/ha) was obtained with the application of [100% Nitrogen through urea]. However, the maximum gross return (153678.34 INR/ha), net return (104358.79 INR/ha) and benefit cost ratio (2.12) were also obtained under the use of [100% Nitrogen through urea].
