A review of effect of Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) on various psychological and physiological variables in sports
Abstract
The current study's goal was to use a narrative review-based research strategy to find, analyze, and comprehend the consensus in the body of literature regarding the impact of eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR) on several psychological and physiological variables in sports. The methodology included finding published English language articles through electronic academic databases following the PRISMA flow guidelines rendering 8 research articles for review as they fulfilled the inclusion criteria. There was some degree of consistency between the studies with regards to the methodology employed however while all the findings of the studies did not report significant differences. The quality of the papers was also evaluated using a Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). There was an established uniformity in the assertion that EMDR did not display any detrimental implications as an intervention for managing psychological and physiological parameters in sports.
