Growth analysis of area, production and productivity of green chilli in Jaipur district, Rajasthan
Abstract
The present study analysed the growth trends in area, production, and productivity of green chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) in Rajasthan and Jaipur district over a 20-year period from 2003-04 to 2022-23. Secondary data were collected from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Rajasthan. Results revealed that both Rajasthan and Jaipur showed significant positive growth in area and production, with Jaipur recording a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.29% in area and 7.56% in production, while Rajasthan recorded 6.60% and 9.69%, respectively. However, productivity growth was not significant in Rajasthan and showed a slight decline in Jaipur, indicating stagnation in yield improvements despite expansion in cultivation. The findings highlight the need to focus on productivity-enhancing measures such as improved seed varieties, balanced fertilization, pest and disease management, and modern production practices to ensure sustainable and profitable green chilli farming in the region.
