Energizing teacher education: Need of the hour

Abstract

Teaching is a noble profession and teacher education is meant to equip the teachers with skills for the development of the students. No doubt it is not a simple task and involves preparedness on various fronts. There are many challenges that a teacher has to face. Teacher Education is meant to address the everchanging scenarios in schools. The school system is now changing in line with NEP. This has necessitated that teacher Education programmes be reformulated and strengthened. Teacher education has a crucial role to play in preparing teachers. The teacher has to be innovative, creative and adaptable to circumstances faced by him. In this paper, the author has emphasized on the need for re-formulating teacher education especially in its duration increasing it to 4 years integrated with B.A., B.com, BSc. B.Ed. from the present two-year course. The author is assured that these changes would definitely lead to innovations leading to quality teacher education.
