A clinical insight into lycopodium-based individualized homeopathic treatment of contact dermatitis

Abstract

This article explores the individualized homeopathic application of Lycopodium clavatum in the management of contact dermatitis, with a psycho-emotional emphasis drawn from Philip M. Bailey’s interpretation of the remedy, particularly the theme of “Bravado & cowardice.” In homeopathic philosophy, the choice of remedy extends beyond physical symptoms to incorporate constitutional and psychological characteristics. Lycopodium, widely recognized for its efficacy in treating chronic skin conditions, is also noted for emotional patterns such as anticipatory anxiety, low self-confidence, and a fear of failure that is often masked by intellectual pride. Drawing on Bailey’s clinical insights and supported by materia medica, this paper integrates a holistic assessment of the Lycopodium personality type often marked by inner insecurity and outward authoritarianism to support remedy selection in contact dermatitis cases. The article also aligns these traits with real-world clinical experiences and symptomatology to demonstrate how individualized remedy prescription rooted in mental-emotional themes can complement dermatological management. This approach underscores the homeopathic principle of treating the person as a whole rather than merely the disease.
